Photo Project - T.E.G Horbury 1900 to 2013

I live in a large village called Horbury, it's situated west of Wakefield in West Yorkshire England. We have may claims to fame including John Carr the architect Sabine Baring-Gould who wrote the hymn 'Onward Christian Solider'. We also had some more well know people like Stan Barstow the author and one of his books 'Joby' was turned into a TV play and started Captain Jean Luc Picard himself Sir Patrick Stewart who lived his early life around this area.  But also we had Thomas Edward Green who you wont find much information on if at all but was prominent photographer who lived in Horbury and took photographs of interesting places and buildings.

In 2000 a lady from my home town, Christine M Cudworth published a book called 'Looking Back On Horbury' with a wealth of interesting insights of Horbury and its history, but most importantly information on T.E.G. in the following post you will see images taken by T.E.G and fellow photographers taking shots of places around my village. I took the opportunity this morning to try and replicate some of the shots to see how much had actually changed if anything.

It's a strange experience standing close to where the old photographs were taken and trying to capture the same shot. Regrettably allot of the old photographs were taken from a viewpoint smack bang in the middle of the road and to be truthful I didn't fancy getting flattened by a car of bus while taking the shots. But I think that you get the Idea.

I wasn't going to publish the photos and just keep them for family and friends but I thought afterwards that this wasn't the point of the exercise and photographs that capture public life etc are not our personal property and belong to society especially when your trying to show history and change.

I hope you like the shots below and as a disclaimer I don't own the old photographs and I'm not sure who does as the information contained in Christine's book is vague.
